Mobile Food Vendors

Port Lincoln is a destination recognised for quality tourism and visitor experiences and acknowledges the value of mobile food businesses and what they can bring to the community.

A mobile food vending business (a business involving the sale of food or beverages from a vehicle (within the meaning of the Road Traffic Act 1961)) must apply to Council for a permit under Section 222 of the Local Government Act 1999, to operate on a public road (as defined in the legislation) within the City of Port Lincoln boundary.

A mobile food vending business can apply to Council for a permit at any time during the year with the option of a one month or twelve month permit.

Permit fees structure and duration

1 month - $100

12 months - $1,000

Locations

There are fifteen locations where mobile food vending businesses may operate and each location has set times and its own 'location rules' as outlined in the Council's Mobile Food Vendor Locations Rules Policy 11.63.3 - Attachment A - Acceptable Locations.

How to Apply

It is recommended that before applying for a permit to read Council's Mobile Food Vendor Location Rules Policy 11.63.3.

To apply for a permit you will need to complete the Mobile Food Vending - Application for Permit and attach the following documents with your application:

  • a copy of your public liability Certificate of Currency for the amount of $20 million noting City of Port Lincoln as an interested party;
  • a copy of your Food Business Notification with the local Council where your vehicle is housed, or where the majority of the food preparation and food handling is occurring; and
  • written proof of notification of your trade waste disposal agreement with your local Council or SA Water.

Payment of the Mobile Food Vending Permit must be made to Council in full before a permit can be issued.
